Fuel fOR REsEarch Reactors

The LEU-FOREvER project primarily aimed to secure the nuclear fuel supply for European research reactors. Our analysis identified two main shortage risks: the extremely challenging conversion of High Performance Research Reactors from High to Low Enriched Uranium fuels, and the ROSATOM monopoly on fueling medium power research reactors with original Soviet design.

Within LEU-FOREvER, we proposed optimizations for both the manufacturing process and the in-pile behavior modelling of these fuels.

LGI played a pivotal role in preparing the project proposal, collaborating closely with the coordinator and core partners. During the project implementation phase, LGI ensured:

• The operation of the Project Management Office (PMO), which provided support and facilitation for the coordinator's daily activities
• The facilitation and support of the End User Group (EUG)'s work
